What is “Basic Discipleship Training”?
“Basic Discipleship Training” is composed of four classes we
hope every member of the Middletown
Church of the Nazarene will
complete. These classes are
intended to develop in both seekers and Christians essential knowledge and
skills needed to be growing and effective servants of Jesus Christ.
The classes are taught by Pastor Rogers with the help of other
members of the pastoral staff.
When
do the classes meet?
Most “Basic Discipleship Training” classes are scheduled for
Thursday evenings.
However, we will also make them available at other times to fit the needs of
those who cannot attend at the scheduled times.
All you have to do is call the pastor to request special times for a
class.
“Discovery 101” , “Growth 201”, and “Ministry 301”
are each one session classes and meet for three hours, usually from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.
“Mission 401”
meets for two, 90-minute session over two consecutive weeks.
These class sessions meet from 6:00 – 7:30.
Why
are the class sessions so long?
This allows us to be better stewards of your time.
Rather than asking you to come for two or three weeks, we are able to
accomplish it all in one session.
This results in less travel costs, fewer scheduling conflicts, and
more efficient use of training time.
What will I learn in
“Basic Discipleship Training”?
“Discovery
101”
is an introduction to the Christian faith and the
Middletown
Church
of the Nazarene. This class
serves as the “Basic Membership Class” for our church and must be completed
by anyone considering becoming a member of the church.
“Growth
201”
teaches you how to become a “Spirit-Filled” and growing Christian.
We focus both on a deeper walk of faith in Jesus Christ along with
how to develop the basic disciplines of Christian living, such as prayer,
Bible study, worship, and stewardship.
“Ministry
301”
will help you find your place of ministry, which is something every
Christian should do. This is
done discovering, developing, a using your God-given gifts and abilities to
serve the Lord.
“Mission
401”
trains Christians to become involved in the
Mission
of the church, which is to spread the gospel throughout the world.
The most exciting part of this class is that you will learn how to
effectively share your faith with other people.
How and when do I enroll in
“Basic Discipleship Training”?
Sign-up sheets for upcoming classes will be at the reception
desk in the church foyer. You
may also indicate your desire to come to class when signing the guest
registers or you may call the church office to enroll.
Our goal is that everyone takes all four classes.
“Discovery 101” must be completed first.
The other three classes may be taken in any order.
What
about childcare?
Childcare will be offered for those who need it.
However, those who need childcare must indicate the need ahead of
time so caregivers can be scheduled.
