For sufferers of depression and the people who love them

When and where does the group meet?

The group meets on the fourth Monday of the month from 7:00 – 8:30 pm.  The first meeting will be Monday, August 25 at the Middletown Church of the Nazarene, 698 North Fifth Street, Middletown, IN.  The group will meet in the “Fireplace Room” just inside the main entrance. (Note, the October meeting will be one week early, on October 20.

Who should come?

This group is for anyone who is or thinks they may be suffering from some level of depression.  It is also for those who have loved ones who are suffering from depression. And would like to learn how to better help them.

What is the purpose of the group?

Understanding:  To provide an environment of understanding and identity for those who suffer with depression.  It is important for those of us who suffer from depression to know we are not alone and there are others who understand how we feel and what it is like.

Education: To provide educational information about the nature of depression, its causes, and the various treatments for depression.  We have learned that one of the biggest problems we have with depression is a lack of knowledge.  Special attention will be given to learning the relationship between depression and spirituality.

Support:  To provide support and encouragement to both cope with depression and to find solutions for overcoming it.  Because depression is a very complicated condition that has many forms, it is understood that overcoming it may not come easily or quickly.

Hope:  To provide a sense of hope for those suffering with depression that they can get better.  This is possibly the most important purpose for the group.

Who will be leading the group?

Pastor Phil Rogers of the Middletown Church of the Nazarene will lead the group.  He will do so from the perspective of one who has dealt with depression in his own life and his family.  Guest speakers will also serve as resources for the group.
